Solution Annealing Temperature & Process — Grade by Grade
ASTM B574 defines solution-annealed product conditions and mechanical requirements; the exact annealing temperature is alloy-specific. The values below are technical processing references and should be confirmed against the applicable mill specification and MTC for critical production.
| Grade | UNS | Solution Anneal | Process |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hastelloy C276 | N10276 | 1121°C / 2050°F | Heat through the full section; typically 10-30 min after reaching temperature depending on thickness; water quench preferred. Rapid air cooling can be used for thin sections. |
| Hastelloy C22 | N06022 | 1121°C / 2050°F | Solution anneal, then water quench; rapid air cooling may be suitable for thin sections. |
| Hastelloy G-35 | N06035 | 1121°C / 2050°F | Heat to solution-annealing temperature followed by rapid air cooling or water quenching. |
| Hastelloy C-4 | N06455 | Approx. 1066°C / 1950°F | Solution anneal followed by rapid cooling; water quench is preferred for restoring the solution-annealed condition. |
| Alloy 2120 MoN | N06058 | 1150-1185°C | Solution anneal with hold based on section size, followed by rapid quenching to prevent re-precipitation. |
| Alloy 59 | N06059 | 1100-1180°C | Solution anneal followed by rapid water quench or forced rapid cooling according to section and mill practice. |
| Hastelloy C-2000 | N06200 | Approx. 1149°C / 2100°F | Heat to solution-annealing temperature, hold according to thickness, then water quench; rapid air cooling may suit thin sections. |
| HYBRID-BC1 | N10362 | 1149°C / 2100°F | Solution anneal followed by rapid air cooling or, preferably, water quenching. |
| Nickel Alloy 212 | N06210 | Approx. 1177°C / 2150°F | Solution anneal followed by rapid liquid quenching according to the material route. |
| Alloy 686 | N06686 | Approx. 1180-1200°C | Solution anneal followed by rapid cooling / water quench to restore the corrosion-resistant microstructure. |
